Dustin Hoffman as Willy Wonka?
I found the following tidbit posted at PR-Inside.com:
DUSTIN HOFFMAN has revealed he fought JOHNNY DEPP for the role of WILLY WONKA in director TIM BURTON’s movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie & The Chocolate Factory.
The 69-year-old Tootsie star tells America’s USA Today newspaper he desperately wanted to play Wonka in the hit 2005 film.
He says, “I was told that it was Johnny and Tim’s (film) - and that was that.”
Dustin Hoffman is a great actor. I can picture it, but it would have been a very different movie. Somehow I think Hoffman would have stayed closer to Gene Wilder’s performance in “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.” What do you think?
Johnny Depp, Depp, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton, Dustin Hoffman, Gene Wilder, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
