Public Enemies: Paris Premiere

Friday, July 3rd, 2009

57829799Still working the European front, Johnny looked very dapper as he was seen leaving his hotel and on the red carpet in Paris last night.

The reviews of the movie are coming out too, and they are - as usual - a mix bag. One thing shines through though, and that’s Johnny’s performance in a role he’s well used to playing - the dark, mysterious rebel.

Yum.

BuzzSugar says: As we experience a recession, we watch a story in which the protagonist robs banks in the midst of the Great Depression — should we be rooting for this guy? Depp makes us want to, that’s for sure, but what with all the bloodshed, it’s hard to always think that what Dillinger’s doing is cool. Public Enemies actually makes us think about this stuff, and making us think is more than most of the big Summer movies can boast.

They continue to say that while they love the story, an the choice of lead actors in Depp and Marion Cotillard, the filmmaking itself made them queasy with random close-ups and “herky-jerky” camerawork. They weren’t a fan of the makeup either, as it was to easily making them remember that it’s a story, all make-believe. It ended on a positive note, however, stating the film is an “intriguing thrill-ride with a little bit of heart and the sharp, intelligent Johnny Depp to lead us through it.” They give it 4.5 stars (out of five.)

EW has similar thoughts, giving the movie a B- rating. Their problem seems not to be with Johnny as the “effortlessly elegant, intriguingly self-contained stars on the screen today” portraying Dillinger, but that at the end, you never get to know Dillinger at all, and they couldn’t get a feel for the bank robber himself, stating in the end that “Public Enemies re-creates clothes, but doesn’t fully fashion the man who wore them.”

I dunno about you - but Johnny Depp can lead me ANYWHERE, and I’ll be happy to follow along!

Parade Interview!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Parade posted their interview with Johnny Depp today, and it’s a good one! (I know, I know, they’re all good ones!) Here’s a little taste for you!

On admiring Dillinger: “Back then the banks were the enemies. We’re learning today that they’ve been the enemies yet again. So when it comes to Dillinger, isn’t it somehow nice to see the underdog kind of take control, even if it was another time?”

Who would he hang with, Hoover or Dillinger?: “If I was given a choice to spend some time with either John Dillinger or J. Edgar Hoover, I’d pick Dillinger any day. J. Edgar Hoover was the most dangerous man in Washington for an inordinate amount of years. John Dillinger was someone who wanted to make the best of life. He just got handed a rotten egg and he did his best to right that wrong.”

How he connected with the character: “…I remembered my grandfather who, at the same time Dillinger was robbing banks, was running moonshine in Eastern Kentucky and West Virginia. They were both going against the establishment.”

But what’s really important? “My kiddies are getting bigger. My daughter’s 10 and my boy’s 7. The greatest thing is just the sort of beauty of watching my kids grow up and become little adults.”

And of course, advise on how to grow up: “Remember that you make your own reality. You don’t have to stay in a little shell that was hammered out for you from childhood. We’re all conditioned to live the way our parents want us to live, and that turns people into serial killers sometimes. At a certain point you have to come out and live your life the way you want to live it. I had to fight to retain my individuality. I’d get agents who’d say, ‘Well, what are you fighting against? Why are you going against the grain?’ But I knew that if I continued on in the way that they wanted me to, it was death. It’s just a question of standing straight and saying, ‘No. I’m not going to be what you want me to be. I’m going to be what I want to be.’”

HBOs First Look!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Mmmmmm! More Johnny! Who can go wrong with more Johnny Depp? I do love Premiere weeks! Public Enemies hits the theaters on July 1, and Johnny has been seen out and about all over town. He was spotted leaving dinner at Da Silvano’s Restaurant in New York City on the 27th, and then at the London Premiere last night - is he recyling his pinstripes? I think maybe. Do we care? Heck no!

Pictures of both the dinner and the premiere red carpet below!

And here’s HBOs first look at the movie, Public Enemies, delving behind the scenes for a bit of “the making of” - which serves only to make me wanna see it more! SO who’s gonna take me to the movies on Wednesday? (Assuming it actually hits our small theater on time… ha!)

Johnny on Letterman!

Friday, June 26th, 2009

Here’s a little clip from Johnny Depp’s Letterman appearance! This is the official CBS released clip where Johnny convinces Letterman that no, he doesn’t watch his own movies. After all, after he’s done, they’re “none of his business” and “that guy” is on screen.

Oh I DO love it when Johnny’s pimping a new movie…

Tonight, Johnny Depp was a guest on Late Night with Davide Letterman, and he dressed up for the occasion in true Johnny style.

Mmmmmmm yummy.

Public Enemies Premiere!

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

johnny-depp-6189-8I’ve been away a few days, so my apologies for just now getting these pictures up! It was red carpet time last night (June 18) in Chicago, and our boy Johnny was out and about in oh so Depp red-carpet style! Stylish pinstripe suit, and mussed hair… looking deliciously scruffy even all dressed up… oooooooooh yeah baby!

Christian Bale and Mario Cotillard joined him, of course, and I’m sure they looked fantastic too - Ok, I know they did, because they’re in the pictures too - but who can look anywhere other than at our boy? EXACTLY.

Johnny spent some time signing autographs too in Chicago, where Public Enemies is actually set up - lucky fans! So who’s gonna be first in line to see Public Enemies? And can you somehow get me in with you? (It won’t open here in the middle of AK for a while yet. Darnit.) Soon as you score a viewing, be sure to come back and let us know!

In the mean time? Enjoy pretty, pretty Johnny…

Oh, how I love my job…

Filming The Rum Diary

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

fp_3089827_rum_diary_excl_fp7_061009 Here’s some pictures of our boy down in Puerto Rico, where he’s filming the Rum Diary since April. Of course, he’ll be working double as it’s time to promote Public Enemies too, as it opens next month. And you know what that means - More Johnny! We absolutely can’t go wrong with that…

Did you know you can find the first draft of the script for The Rum Diary online? I didn’t until recently, but for those who are interested, click here. It is only the first draft, so who knows how many changes there have been made, but if you like being in the know, you can be.

In the meantime, enjoy the pictures of Johnny in Puerto Rico! I gotta say, I love those sunglasses…

Public Enemies Trailers!

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

.

It’s getting closer! July first can’t come fast enough for me, I’ll tell ya. Watching the trailers just makes me more excited to see the film. Sure, it’s not the big Terminator or Wolverine, or even Star Trek, but it’s Johnny freakin Depp, and he is more luscious than the rest!

Here’s the trailers!

.

Yeah, inorite? Whoo!

In other news, while Johnny is currently filming The Rum Diary down south, with The Lone Ranger coming up after that, as well as Pirates 4 - rumors are swirling that Martin Scorsese wants Johnny to play Frank Sinatra in an his upcoming biopic! There’s no confirmation, but sources say that they’re thrilled with Johnny’s performance in Public Enemies (…duh…) and they “very much” want to “stay in the Johnny Depp business.” Who wouldn’t?!

While Johnny proved he could carry a tune in Sweeny Todd, the Sinatra film would use Sinatra’s own recordings, thanks to a deal with Frank Sinatra Enterprises. It might be a nice change of pace, to see Johnny work with someone new… what do you think?

It’s nice to see all these things line up for our boy -but what does Johnny think about growing older? He wants to take the time later on to develop a nice…. beer belly. “I just want to become a traditional old man with a beer belly. I’d like to be sitting on the veranda of our place in France, just staring out over the lawns.”

Sounds just fine to me. If anyone can pull off a beer belly? I’m betting it’s Johnny!

Some Monday Manjoyment!

Monday, April 6th, 2009

jd3Aaaaaah, we do love it when our boy Johnny is filming something! It means we actually get to SEE him, and not just slinking into a studio somewhere, but out in the open, doing what he does best - making the ladies swoon!

Johnny’s been down in Puerto Rico to film The Rum Diary, where he plays Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life as he writes for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. It’s not due to hit the theaters until sometime in 2010, but in the meantime we get to see many a picture of Johnny greeting his fans around the studio.

Always gracious - he even made one poor lady cry by saying hello. He stood by her and gave her a hug until she calmed down a bit and all of the rest of us are incredibly jealous about it all! The shades he’s sporting seem to be a staple for the duration, as is the fact he’s clean shaven and looking as pretty as ever.

All together now - dreaaaaaaamy siiiiiiiiiiiigh!

In other news - Alice in Wonderland is in post production, and rumor has it that the shots of Johnny are certainly nothing to sneeze at! The waiting is the hard part though - March, 2010 is so far away!

At least we have Public Enemies coming up in July, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus will be out at last in September, and of course, the below pictures of our boy struttin’ his stuff. Enjoy!

Promo Poster for Public Enemies!

Monday, March 9th, 2009

The promotional poster is out for Public Enemies, and the graphics designer in me can’t help but join my inner 12 year old and giggle every time I see it. Sure, Johnny is pretty as ever, even all mobster’d out - but really, do we need an arrow of words pointing to little “Johnny”? (literally, even, as his name is at the point, and small!)

peposter

…inorite?
You’ll never see it the same way again.
Sorry.
(I’m not really.)
:)

Johnny on the go!

johnnysitingA Johnny spotting!

We all know how rare that can be, and our boy wasn’t seen at the Oscar’s, so we were missing some of the eye candy. Fortunately, some eagle eyed paparazzi caught Johnny heading into the Paris Ritz hotel on Monday.

Sure, he was all bundled up, but there’s no mistaking who it was, and we’ll take anything we can get!

At the end of the Oscars, we got some actual footage in a teaser during the credit too - Public Enemies popped during the ‘upcoming movies’ montage, which just makes us want July to come all the faster!

A user over at the IMDB uploaded some screen caps for everyone - so thanks for that!

Check it out!

Mmmmmmmmmm. Yum. Johnny Depp as a gun-toting outlaw. Does it get any better?

Early “Public Enemies” reviews!

Saturday, February 21st, 2009

public-enemies-movie-2 After screen tests earlier this month, some reviews for the upcoming Public Enemies are popping up over the net - and it’s generally positive! Like here as any doubt that a movie with Depp as a gun-toting gangster wouldn’t be good. Ha!

The Defamer pieced together a bunch of reviews from movie boards and the like, where they said it was overall positive, leaving them with the feeling that the gangster epic will survive - and flourish! They were careful not to include spoilers, using some of the more subtle messages to give us a little hint of what we might see come July 1st.

One thing that bothered some was the use of handheld cameras - which seemed too video game-like and took them out of the movie a bit, but other then that - and the lack of sex scenes featuring a barely clothed Johnny, of course - some of the kudo’s included comments that watching Depp’s face go through all the emotions was incredible, and to “just bring your kleenex.”

Sigh. July is so far away!

Public Enemies - photos!

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009

00021537We inch closer and closer to the release of Public Enemies, scheduled to open July 1st, and some images are trickling in here and there. Who doesn’t love Johnny Depp all banged up, and/or toting a gun? Mraaaaaaaaawr!

Even the infamous Princess herself isn’t immune to the charms of our boy Johnny! Anne Hathaway, of the Princess Diaries, as well as more recent films such as Rachael gets Married and Bride Wars, is willing to marry a Johnny Depp twin straight away! Anne just finished up filming Alice in Wonderland, where she plays the White Queen opposite Johnny’s Madd Hatter, and went on to say that Johnny is everything you’d want him to be and more. How was it working with Tim Burton, Helena and Johnny?

“Everyone is so mad, and yet because of the atmosphere, no one thinks they’re insane!”

Sounds about like I imagine it would be - but I hate to break it to Anne and everyone else - if there’s a Depp twin running around? I call dibs. Stand in line, ya’ll!

Completely gratuitous - scans!

Sunday, November 30th, 2008

So, we all know that there is only ONE Sexiest man, despite the fact that People named Wolverine - er, Hugh Jackman number one. That man is Johnny Depp. Who looks FANTASTIC as an old style gangster in the promo piece in Empire UK article about the upcoming Public Enemies. I posted the pictures before, but here are the scans of the entire article:

Click the pictures to bigify into readable chunks! The best part is that the magazine reports the release date to be a week sooner then previously thought -July 3rd, instead of the 9th! one step closer to Depp on screen! Raaaaaaaaawr!

Speaking of Rawr! Here’s another scan, this time as part of People’s Sexiest Men issue - despite the travesty of not being declared number one again, it does have a lovely full page picture of our boy Johnny.

And for those who haven’t yet seen the youtube “Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis - Love Story” that they mention there as having been viewed an astounding 492k+ times (a number that increases as I write this) Here it is:

All together now… awwwwww! It’s glimpses like this of Johnny’s real life, and how grounded he is with his family as well as his career that makes us love him. That and the fact he’s drop dead gorgeous, of course. Heh!

The latest little tidbit of rumor comes from PerezRevenge.com - the online answer to perez.com, of course, where folks are nice all the time. It seems that Sir Roger Moore’s memoirs are to be turned into a movie, and while there’s been no official announcement, Sir Roger, when asked who would play him, “has been telling friends, with a knowingly raised eyebrow, that he’s a great admirer of Johnny Depp.”

Would you watch a film about the life of 007’s Sir Roger? Just to see Johnny? Yeah. me too.

Speaking of..

SPEAKING of Public Enemies - because, ya know, we totally were - this site here has a review of the first test screening, including big spoilers, so read at your own risk. And if you have some cash to burn - CharityFolks.com is auctioning off two tickets and after party passes to the premiere of Public Enemies. (does not include meeting the talent…).

We’ll also finally get to see the trailers for the film by Christmas. Hurray! I’m sure they’ll be youtubed as fast as someone possibly can, and we’ll get those as soon as they’re available.

As if that’s not enough - new still pictures from the movie are featured in the January 2009 issue of Empire magazine, so be sure to grab yourself a copy as soon as it hits the news stands near you! After all, there’s also an interview with director Michael Mann!

Need MORE added incentive to buy the magazine? Wolverine on the front cover. Raaaaaaaaawr!

A Wisconsin native had a brush with fame, as her Daughter was able to meet Johnny Depp while he was filming Public Enemies. She called her mom to give her the whole scoop, and dad was awesome enough to blog about it for us! Dad never got close to Johnny, though he did hobnob with the actors at the local pub, he never got to actually meet Depp. His daughter Miriam, however, not only met him - but he TOUCHED her hand, shook it, and talked to her. She was beaming - even over the phone as she told him the story.

“He looked right into my EYES and talked with me! He said my hand was cold. So he took my hand in BOTH of his and rubbed it to warm it up!”

She then admitted she washed her hands right away, because he had shaken many hands - but still, how jealous are WE? (Answer: Very.)
