Monday, July 30th, 2007

The Times of India is reporting that Johnny has bought a penthouse loft in the Eastern Columbia Building, considered to be one of the most beautiful of Los Angeles’ historic buildings. The penthouse has private decks and full views of downtown, and the San Bernadino mountains.

Apparently, the price was $2 million. Neighbors include T.R. Knight, of Grey’s Anatomy and Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling. Guess you can’t spend all your time living on an island! Especially when you’re working! Congratulations to Johnny and Vanessa and family on their new digs!

“Pirates” Display at Comic-Con

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

pirates-of-the-caribbean-4.jpg

Yesterday, I talked about the possibility of “Sweeney Todd” previews at Comic-Con in San Diego. That won’t be the only sighting of Johnny Depp at Comic-Con. SignOnSanDiego.com reports the following about Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” display:

Disney’s display for “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End,” the summer movie blockbuster, includes a hand-carved Jack Sparrow (played in the film by Johnny Depp) and a replica of the Black Pearl ship. Inside the booth is an interactive museum, pieces of art from the collection of producer Jerry Bruckheimer, costumes and sound effects from the film. The ship, which weighs 6,000 pounds, took seven months to build in Paso Robles and was shipped in pieces to Comic-Con – just for you, said Maximillian Castillo, whose Encino-based company did the installation.

Click on the link above for info about other displays at Comic-Con. It’ll be wonderful fun!

Sneak Preview of “Sweeney Todd”?

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

jdepp.jpg

Will Comic-Con attendees be getting a preview of the Tim Burton-Johnny Depp musical “Sweeney Todd?” According to Playbill it was one of the film invited to present at the San Diego event, July 26-29.

However, according to a Dreamworks Studios spokesperson, that is unlikely.

“It’s too early. If a poster had been ready, that would have been the time to reveal it.” Noting the expected release, he added, “It’s still a long way to December.”

The film is scheduled for limited release Dec. 21, 2007, with a wide opening on Jan. 11, 2008. All you lucky Comic-Con attendees, let us know if you see anything!

Pirates TV Series?

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

pa58090_175×175.jpg

I found the following at Metro.co.uk:

Captain Jack Sparrow looks set to get his very own TV series.

Disney bosses are said to be planning a Pirates Of The Caribbean spin off about Jack “The Lad”.

An insider told the Daily Star: “The idea is that we focus on a much younger Jack Sparrow and show fans how he became a famous pirate.

“The film has been such a success with spin-offs such as toys and video games and books it seems only right to do a TV series.

“They did one with Indiana Jones, showing the fossil-finder in his younger days, so there is no reason why it won’t work for Jack.

“And since the film has attracted guests like Keith Richards, you can imagine the stars who’ll want to pop up in the telly show.”

But first of all producers will need to find a younger actor up to Johnny Depp’s standards to take on the coveted role of a teenage Jack.

All I can say is, “Are they crazy?!” Do they really think they’ll find a younger actor up to Johnny’s standards? And besides, don’t they get it? Johnny Depp is Captain Jack Sparrow! Why would anyone want to tune in to watch someone else?

Johnny Depp Album Reissued

The big Johnny Depp news today is at PunkNews.org:

aubin on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 10:00 AM (EDT)

The one and only album by “supergroup” P has been re-issued by Caroline Records. The band was formed by Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Johnny Depp (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, some movie about pirates), Bill Carter and Sal Jenco. The album also features guest appreances from Sex Pistol Steve Jones, RHCP’s Flea and the legnedary Chuck E. Weiss.

The band made their debut at the 1993 South by Southwest Music Festival and became the informal house band at the Viper Room, the Los Angeles rock club co-owned by Depp. In 1995, Capitol Records, then home to the Butthole Surfers, released P’s self-titled debut album.

The song, “Michael Stipe,” gained some alternative rock airplay, and sales were respectable if modest considering the fame of the participants. The group proved to be short-lived, as Depp and Jenco returned to acting, Haynes continued touring and recording with the Butthole Surfers, and Carter released solo albums and collaborated with Howe Gelb of Giant Sand.

1. I Save Cigarette Butts
2. Zing Splash
3. Michael Stipe
4. Oklahoma
5. Dancing Queen
6. Jon Glenn (Mega Mix)
7. Mr. Officer
8. White Man Sings The Blues
9. Die Anne
10. Scrapings From Ring
11. The Deal

This is great news for Depp fans. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Johnny Depp and Harry Potter help make it cool for kids to wear glasses! So says the website Telegraph.co.uk. In a report by the College of Optometrists, which polled seven to 16-year-olds, the boy wizard, Harry Potter, and Johnny came in first and second in a list of celebrities who made it easier for kids to wear glasses and not worry about being teased. Also making the list were the Queen, Sir Elton John, Paul O’Grady, Tony Blair, Billie Piper, actor David Tennant as Doctor Who, and Anne Robinson of “The Weakest Link.”

“From Hell” Character Given Marker

Thursday, July 5th, 2007

hell_1024768.jpg

The Epoch Times reports that the character portrayed by Johnny Depp in From Hell, Detective Inspector Frederick Abberline, has had a marker placed on his grave these many years later. Following is an excerpt from the article:

LONDON-The grave of a Victorian detective who led the hunt for one of Britain’s most notorious killers, Jack the Ripper, is finally to be marked with a headstone, 78 years after his death.

Despite being a key figure in the investigation into a string of gruesome murders in London’s East End in the late 19th century, Detective Inspector Frederick Abberline was buried in an unmarked grave.

Now, through the work of a group of former Metropolitan Police officers and keen Ripper historians, a headstone has been placed at his grave in Wimborne Road cemetery, Bournemouth.

Father Robin Harger, vicar of the nearby church, St Stephen’s and St Augustin’s, will give a blessing on Friday attended by current and former Scotland Yard detectives.

“It’s extraordinary that no headstone has been there to commemorate Abberline, considering his role in the Jack the Ripper case,” said former Met officer Arthur Stanners, who has helped in the campaign.

Abberline was sent from Scotland Yard to lead a team of detectives investigating the murder and horrific mutilation of the bodies of prostitutes found in Whitechapel between 1888 and 1891.

Depp Photo Brings Big Bucks

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

johnnydepp.jpg

On June 28, I posted regarding the above photo of Johnny Depp being up for auction on Ebay. The bidding ended a little earlier this afternoon, with a lucky bidder winning the framed, autographed 8×10 photo for $1003.33! That means big bucks for Dogs Deserve Better, the charity to whom Johnny donated the photo.

Congratulations to the winner, and please check out the charity and make a donation. It’s a very worthy cause for man’s best friend!

Sexy and Masculine in “Guyliner”

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

johnny_depp1.jpg

In the Orlando Sentinel, Colleen Mastony says

Eye makeup never looked so good on a man. In the latest installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, Johnny Depp trowels on more black eyeliner than a Kabuki dancer. Yet, even with his heavily shadowed eyes and industrial-strength mascara, Depp manages to exude masculine sex-appeal as he swaggers woozily across the big screen as campy, over-the-top, drunken pirate Capt. Jack Sparrow.

Fuelled by Johnny’s eyepopping turns as Captain Jack Sparrow, as well as his popularity with the gentlemen as well as the ladies, the use of “guyliner” is becoming more common. A list of celebs who use it:

* Tobey Maguire (in Spiderman 3)
* Jared Leto
* Pete Wentz (Fall Out Boy)
* My Chemical Romance
* Panic! At The Disco
* The Killers

and even Depp’s father in “At World’s End,” the legendary Keith Richards, has now taken a liking to it.

Thanks to a merchandising line from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies, the motto “Real men wear eyeliner” is now available on mugs, t-shirts, and hats.

Johnny started the trend, and he’s still the best at wearing it! What do you think? Would you guys out there wear eyeliner? And ladies, do you like your man wearing it?

Johnny Voted Sexiest Pin-up

Friday, June 29th, 2007

johnny_depp-8-pirates.jpg

Metro.co.uk reports that Johnny Depp was voted sexiest male pin-up by London office workers! Apparently, he fought off stiff competition from other actors, including, George Clooney and Brad Pitt (whose better half, Angelina Jolie, was named sexiest female pin-up).

Those Londong office workers have taste when it comes to knowing who they’d like to see on their walls!
