Johnny’s a madman!

…when it comes to dice, that is!

New York Indie band, We Are Scientists, according to The Mirror, were beside themselves when they got to visit the set of Pirates of the Caribbean, because they’d get to meet Johnny Depp. They were so excited - they “lost all sense, and a few pieces of eight.”

Our boy, Capt’n Jack Sparrow seems to be a hell of a dice player, and convinced them to play a game of craps. Two hours later? The boys were in trouble and sinking fast. Keith Murray sheepishly admitted that Johnny accused them of oweing him $28,000… but added that Orlando Bloom had fallen so far as to owe Johnny $800k! Guess they should be glad they stopped when they did!

Bass player Chris Cain was amazed by the visit and the chance to meet the star - and thrilled that Johnny was so interested in the band. “I guess he’s always dreamed of being a rock star.”

They’re not the only ones infatuated with Depp! Sophia Myles reminisced about one of her first onscreen kisses in an interview with Parade.

When asked if she remembers her first on-screen kiss, she admitted that she thought Johnny was one of the first. “People think it’s all so glamorous and sexy,” she added, “but actually it’s so different then how it is in real life. You’re not doing it for real. It’s all fake. Most of the time you’re just conscious of the camera and hoping that you don’t look like you have a double chin or something.”

I don’t know about you - but I’d be hard pressed to ‘fake’ anything with our boy Johnny! I’m just sayin’.

Johnny in motion…

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

So, as Johnny travels away from Florida, here’s a couple videos for your watching pleasure! First, the super yacht parked at, and in motion, as it pulled from the dock at the Florida Mansion I mentioned last time.

And some delicious Be My Baby goodness can be found here, by the TMZ crew, as Johnny and his bandmates ham it up for the camera a little bit!

And here’s another of The Kids as they performed this past weekend:

Enjoy!

It’s our rebel with a cause…

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Oh how I wish I was in florida last night to behold a rocking sweaty Johnny Depp in person! As I mentioned before, Johnny reunited with his old band, The Kids, for a benefit concert in Pompano beach, FL. last night. It was reported that he played a 90 minute set with his bandmates. The Kids are a power-pop group that formed in 1978, when Depp was in high school in South Florida.

He wasn’t alone, either - Long time girlfriend Vanessa Paradis, and their daughter, 9 year old Lily-Rose sat together in the box seats as Depp smiled up at them from the stage. (Johnny’s 6 year old son, Jack, wasn’t in attendance.)

This is the second time that Johnny and The Kids have reunited for these functions, held in honor of their late manager, Sheila Witkin. Last year, the proceeds were donated to the Dan Marino Foundation - which funds programs for kids with special needs. Earlier, Johnny posed with Marino and fans.

Onstage, Johnny was his typical fashion forward/backward self, with a blue hole-y tshirt, torn jeans and a flannel shirt around his waist. He blended in with his fellow band members, playing lead guitar and singing background on their original tunes. They also covered classices, like the Ronettes ‘Be My Baby’.

The paparazzi and professional photographers aren’t the only ones with photo’s of the event - Lily-Rose took pictures with a disposable camera while she cheered daddy on from the stands during his performance.

So he plays guitar, sings, acts, and is sexy as hell, as well as a hella nice guy. They broke the mold, with our Johnny, didn’t they?

Johnny sneaks in…

Friday, August 29th, 2008

Remember back here when I told you Johnny Depp and The Kids would be performing in Florida this weekend? A lucky photog snapped a shot of our man sneaking into a recording studio in Florida - presumably to practice with the band in preparation for the concert. So who’s in Florida who’ll head over there and snap some photos for us here at JohnnyDeppWatch, hm? Anyone? Beuller? Beuller?

In other news - there’s another rumor floating around - and no, not that Catwoman might be played by Cher to terrorize Gotham along with Depp as Riddler, because some on - who would believe that?! Cher? Catwoman? No. Just no. This rumor has to do with Sin City 3 - Hell and Back which Johnny Depp has been rumored to play Wallace.

Sin City 3 is still in production, with a release date of 2009. Sin City 2, though (A Dame to kill for) was held up for some reason and won’t be out until 2010, which puts Sin City 3 out at the earliest 2011. Also rumored to appear is Michael Clarke Duncan as “Manute.”

The plot involves Wallace, an ex-Navy SEAL, who saves a young woman Esther from killing herself. She then, because this always happens, is kidnapped after a night on the town by mysterious people. “May God have mercy on those who stand in Wallace’s way.”

According to director Robert Rodriquez, the part was written with Johnny in mind. The story revolves around the Sin City Graphic Novel “Hell and Back” which features the brooding artist Wallace, who’s drugged repeatedly and wanders through the story hallucinating.

Sounds like something right up Johnny’s ally, huh?

What I wouldn’t give…

KOOL 105.5 FM Radio in LForida has just announced the 2nd Annual Sheila Witkin Memorial Reunion Concert will be held on August 29 and 30, at Club Cinema in Pampano Beach! Why is this exciting? Friday Film: Into The Great Wide Open

Friday, November 9th, 2007

In this week’s Friday Film, I’m featuring the great video from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Into The Great Wide Open. The video features Johnny in the role of Eddie Rebel. It’s about a young man who goes to Hollywood and becomes a rock star, but falls victim to all of Hollywood’s excesses, and is unable to handle the pressure. I loved this song, and the video!

Along with Johnny and Tom Petty, the video also features Gabrielle Anwar as Eddie’s girlfriend, and Faye Dunaway as Eddie’s agent. I’ve always been a huge fan of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.

It’s a great opportunity to see Johnny onstage playing guitar! If you haven’t seen this video before or, at least, not for a long time-feast your eyes and ears!

Sweeney Todd Soundtrack

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

sweeneytoddsm.jpg

According to Playbill, Nonesuch Records will release the soundtrack for the Sweeney Todd film. Nonesuch also produced the cast recording for the recent revival of Sweeney Todd. The film is slated to be released December 21. There is no release date yet for the soundtrack.

It has also been announced that all cast members will do their own singing from Stephen Sondheim’s music and lyrics. A great chance to hear Johnny singing! This’ll definitely go on my Christmas list!

The big Johnny Depp news today is at PunkNews.org:

aubin on Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at 10:00 AM (EDT)

The one and only album by “supergroup” P has been re-issued by Caroline Records. The band was formed by Gibby Haynes (Butthole Surfers), Johnny Depp (What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, some movie about pirates), Bill Carter and Sal Jenco. The album also features guest appreances from Sex Pistol Steve Jones, RHCP’s Flea and the legnedary Chuck E. Weiss.

The band made their debut at the 1993 South by Southwest Music Festival and became the informal house band at the Viper Room, the Los Angeles rock club co-owned by Depp. In 1995, Capitol Records, then home to the Butthole Surfers, released P’s self-titled debut album.

The song, “Michael Stipe,” gained some alternative rock airplay, and sales were respectable if modest considering the fame of the participants. The group proved to be short-lived, as Depp and Jenco returned to acting, Haynes continued touring and recording with the Butthole Surfers, and Carter released solo albums and collaborated with Howe Gelb of Giant Sand.

1. I Save Cigarette Butts
2. Zing Splash
3. Michael Stipe
4. Oklahoma
5. Dancing Queen
6. Jon Glenn (Mega Mix)
7. Mr. Officer
8. White Man Sings The Blues
9. Die Anne
10. Scrapings From Ring
11. The Deal

This is great news for Depp fans. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!
